Okay, first and foremost, the US locks up more people than any other country in the world, inlcuding Red China, so we aren't "releasing criminals back on the streets". Quite the contrary, we've developed a prison industrial complex built on incarcerating young men of color for slave labor.

And it's been proven that immigrants commit less crimes than people who are born here by a wide margin.
