Federal Crop Subsidies Went to Billionaires
GAO report finds $117 million went to high-income earners

Federal crop insurance subsidies went to billionaires, according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
The GAO report, released Wednesday, found that thousands of individuals with incomes over $500,000 have received $317 million in subsidies over five years, and not all were farmers.
The GAO also found four billionaires who received $118,400 in subsidies, and collected about $38,300 in claims payments over five years. Each billionaire insured an average of 18,200 acres.
The USDA’s crop insurance program budget has “increased substantially” since President Barack Obama took office, from a $3.8 billion program between 2004 to 2008, to $8.5 billion between 2009 to 2014. About 1 million Americans participate in the program.

“Those costs are expected to average $8.9 billion per year for fiscal years 2015 through 2024, according to the Congressional Budget Office,” the GAO said.

Added to all the other waste and abuse of tax dollars, we can why we have to borrow money each and every single day just to keep the government running. And, the government is always talking raising taxes, but never about cutting waste such as the above article details. It's all favoritism and pay-backs.

My congressman, Doug Lamalfa, Republican, California first district, does little besides making sure these subsidies slip into the right pockets.

In fact he's gotten over a million dollars for his hobby farm.

But why worry? We must be rolling in money. What can be more expensive than war? And we love war. Look at how many we're fighting. And our congress seems to be eager to start a new one.

It's all politics. Just political favors, pay-backs, kick-backs, and wasting taxpayers' hard earned dollars. Yes, the wars are waste also. Yet, voters continue to elect and to re-elect these crooks to office. I'll never figure out why voters keep these crooks in office. We have much better uses for our tax dollars. Maybe one day stupid voters will wake up and smell the coffee.
