There were fragmented groups with parallel ideas for decades before that, all trying to present themselves in similar fashion. The SA was a sub-branch of the Nazi Party that were seen as an internal threat and eliminated in "The Night of the Long Knives".

Aside from Politico's usual Left leaning slant on topics, this excerpt will be a clue as to why little has been do against the domestic terrorism and insurrection that is key agenda of Antifa;

This all shows common structure, standard procedures, etc. common to an "organization".
