The divisions between races, classes and cultures are quite useful to people who want to get a lot of political power quickly. Leftists seek to destroy these divisions and level the playing field while fascists exploit the wedges for all they are worth. Both strategies work to a certain extent or people would quit using them. The greatest wedge of all, rich and poor, is where you tell if a particular rising regime is left or right. If the rich start to look like divine right to rule royalty after they come to power you have fascism. If the rich are high party officials who have to hide their opulent lifestyle you have leftist authoritarianism.
