For anyone who doesn't remember "The Carousel of Progress", it was an attraction in Disneyland's Tomorrowland.

It was an unique carousel theater where the audience in their seats were moved from scene-to-scene each scene extolling the advances in technology from the turn of the 19th Century until now, and predicting what we might see in the future.

The attraction was open from 1967 (previously, the attraction had been placed in the New York World's Fair) until 1985.

The attraction ended with visions of colonized space, convenient homes, and clean, future cities full of clean, efficient technology.

No one could walk way from that ride without being, at least a little bit, optimistic for the future and humming the insipid (but inspiring) theme song.

When I last saw the exhibit (no longer an attraction) in 2010, it had been replace by a static display of "new technology" featuring devices that would be out of date in a suburban Best Buy. No music, no script, just a dusty, museum-like, display like a high-school science fair. The least Disney-like spot in the park.
