“It will be my objective to phase out Social Security." - Sen. Mike Lee says the quiet part out loud.

Actually what happens is that the difference comes out of the general fund.

Better to raise or eliminate the cap

Actually what happens is that the difference comes out of the general fund.

Actually, that is not allowed.

How are boomers a failed generation? I believe each successive generation is getting better, harder working, and more productive.
I dont sgree

Technologically Boomers were better than their parents, the Greatest Generation

But that's all

Lee better not touch SS except to "fix" it by raising the cap.

Not a fan of raising or removing the cap. That is potentially a huge tax hike on more successful Americans, who already bear the vast majority of the tax burden.

That is another "fix" if congress approves it. Without new legislation SS only pays 75% of promised benefits
"If no legislative change is enacted, scheduled tax revenues will be sufficient to pay only about three-fourths of the scheduled benefits after trust fund reserve depletion."

With the price rises under Biden the lower 90% of incomes are struggling.
The high earners should take the tax cut extension with a cap raise and be thankful.
I'd even raise the early retirement age from 62 to 63.

Its a progressive tax to cover the SS deficit caused by the government using the SS surplus and replacing it with an IOU.

If the cap is removed and the benefit capped, it is a HUGE tax hike, particularly for the successful self-employed.(12.4% for every dollar above the current 168k income cap). Keep in mind that the SS benefit algorithm is already skewed for a diminishing benefit for those that paid more into it. A self employed person making 300k/yr, for example, would pay an additional 16,000 in taxes per year. That is ridiculous.

This is not the answer
