The bill, which would raise the age to purchase an AR-15-style rifle from 18 to 21, must still be considered by the entire Texas House, with deadlines to do so looming this week. Even if it were to pass — still an unlikely prospect — it would face almost certain rejection by the State Senate, where the hard-right lieutenant governor, Dan Patrick, holds powerful control.

Now if it can pass the Senate. It would be great.

Criminals laugh at silly laws like this.

Let's say 1000 Americans are murdered every year from guns. This legislation might save 3 or 10 lives. That's a good thing. Then if they can pass a few other common sense gun bills, maybe those will save a few lives too.

There is no silver bullet but we can mitigate the damage. Guns will always be legal in America as they should be. But we need some laws that lower the numbers.

The guy who murdered the family of 5 because they told him to stop shooting his guns while their baby is sleeping. They should have just called the cops and the cops should have taken all his guns and taken him to jail. But it was Texas that happened so I don't know what the laws are there. Is it okay to shoot your guns in a residential area in Texas?

Since assault weapons are not sold in Texas unless the purchaser has a special FFL, your whole premise is invalid.
