He Wanted to Kill ‘Infidels’: Syrian Man Planned Terror Attack Using Explosive Belt,” translated from “Er wollte „Ungläubige“ töten: Syrer plante Terroranschlag mit Sprengstoffgürtel.
BZ, April 27, 2026.
Berlin – Abdullah R. (23) has been standing trial before the Berlin Regional Court since Monday. The accusation: He planned an Islamist attack in Berlin. His goal: To use a knife to kill as many Jews and “infidels” as possible—and then blow himself up using an explosive belt.
But things turned out differently. Acting on a tip from a foreign intelligence agency, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution alerted the Berlin police and public prosecutor’s office. Ultimately, a Special Operations Command (SEK) team arrested the Syrian national on November 1, 2025, at his apartment on Sonnenallee in the Neukölln district. In doing so, they most likely prevented a brutal suicide attack in the capital.
“The defendant has now made a comprehensive confession,” stated a court spokeswoman. He apologized for his actions. He also spoke of it being “fortunate” that he was arrested before he could carry out his plans.
Abdullah R. had arrived in Germany in December 2023 and applied for asylum. He had a completely clean police record, and there were no indications of Islamist sympathies, an investigator told
B.Z. following the arrest. However, he allegedly became radicalized online shortly thereafter and began preparing an attack.
According to the indictment, he purchased a knife, chemicals, and components for the construction of an “explosive and incendiary device.” Furthermore, he published IS propaganda accompanied by so-called
nasheeds—battle songs and anthems used by the jihadist militia Islamic State (IS) to stir emotions and mobilize politically.
In his confession, the defendant stated that he had established contact with a man via TikTok. This individual provided him with information and encouraged him to seek a martyr’s death. According to the court spokesperson, the Syrian national was receptive to this idea because his personal goals and dreams had gone unfulfilled; for instance, he had been unable to find work….
Abdullah R. (23) steht seit Montag vor dem Landgericht Berlin. Der Vorwurf: Er plante einen islamistischen Anschlag in Berlin.
