Shaka Zulu the African Hitler
Reign and Legacy
- Expansion: His reign triggered the Mfecane (the "Crushing"), a period of widespread war and forced migration across Southern Africa that permanently altered the region's demographics.
- Decline and Assassination: Following the death of his mother, Nandi, in 1827, Shaka reportedly descended into erratic and tyrannical behavior, ordering mass executions and draconian laws. He was assassinated in 1828 by his half-brothers, Dingane and Mhlangana.
- Cultural Impact: His life has been dramatized in numerous works, most notably the 1986 Shaka Zulu miniseries and the more recent Shaka iLembe.
