Is USMB really slow lately?

Last time there was a gazillion bots, they were removed and everything was fine until recently.

I asked what the cost of an upgrade server would cost......no reply.

I sometimes experience a lag getting the site to load. Happens maybe once or twice a week. It is confined to this site so I know its not a my internet service issue. what sort of issue it is, who knows.

What I don't get is that the best explanation is excessive server traffic, etc., etc., yet it still happens sometimes even in the late night when hardly anyone is on here talking. No one except maybe those thousands of anonymous bots on here not even members of the place.

And to be sure, thread discussions here seem a fraction of what they once were when I first joined.

That and they don't make any money....... you'd think that could be remedied..... one way or another.

Still slow at times. Very slow up to system timeout.

I think Stain Mods have a "kill switch" they activate on non-Stain posters. A sotware ID triggered delay. There, I said it. I could name names and patterns but I won't.

Here in Plasticville, Verizon net has sucked since the global warming event that left 14" in the driveway.
It's about dial up speed at the moment.

Yeah, but with only one occurrence, no way of knowing if that really helped or it was just a coincidence.

That and they don't make any money....... you'd think that could be remedied..... one way or another.

People are often discouraged from donating. I was once banned for six days having done nothing! No explanation ever given.

I understand that the server belongs to someone else. It has been said this site loses the owners money! This place has been around 20 years, I think it is worth fixing and saving, maybe change it to a place with a nominal annual fee. I'm not sure where the cost arises as there is no paid staff and it can't cost that much to add on a little more storage space or whatever needed every few years. Git 'er done.

Believe me, I noticed a big change for sometime until recently.
It was AI bots probably from news org's looking for what's being discussed.

I'm sure they pay for server space. I don't see any discussion about a fix..... probably a nunya thing.

The boatd experts said they fixed all that last major slowdown when old-fart had a coniption fit out of service half a day or something?

More or less. Those guests or bots infitrate the server and take up bandwidth slowing things down. Even if deleted others probably do the same thing over time.
