I'm talking about the acceptance of corruption in government as a way of life in this country. Am I wrong?

We will become a third world country if we stop investing in our own infrastructure, lose leadership in science and watch our educational system keep falling apart. I don't believe abolishing and defunding everything is the way forward. What needs to be done is to get serious people into governing positions and demand better from our government.

Too many people within our government simply don't give a damn.

Before I laugh I'll ask... How do you define a Third World Country?

We've certainly acquired third-world debt levels in this country:

For the last 5000 years it has been proven over and over again how the "miracle of compound interest" can manufacture debt faster than any productive economy can pay it off.

Such levels of debt at all levels of government require corruption of "public servants" in order to continue the con.

One of the defining factors of a third world country is that a few people own everything and the rest eat dirt.

Is that the direction that we are going?

Lee Iacocca warned about this.

And now it has happened.

These days every nation is a 3rd world country.

Of them all, China has the highest growth rate and the most new billionaires. Yes, China. Yes, billionaires.

Income inequality and stagnant wages for the middle class are definitely problems that need to be addressed... I don't see many eating dirt nor do I see us going that far down the rabbit hole... I think we have a pretty high standard of living with most peoples main complaint being spotty cell phone reception and we still have an ample amount of opportunity. Third world is a pretty laughable and dramatic comparison

The best metaphor I've found for how suddenly debt can collapse a productive economy starts with a single lily pad in the middle of an otherwise empty pond:

"'A lily pod is placed in a pond. Each day thereafter the pod and then all its descendants double. On the thirtieth day the pond is covered completely by lily pods, which can grow no more.' He then asks: 'On which day was the pond half full and half empty? The twenty-ninth day,' that is, one day before the half the pond’s lilies double for the final time, stifling its surface. The end to exponential growth thus comes quickly."
