I think we need to make a set of huge, appropriately fake pearls the size of truck tires and have them on tour in every city/town in America so all can get a chance to clutch them.
They're definitely milking it for all they can. In the end, it was just a bunch of short bussers acting out.
But, a sitting president incited a riot that destroyed public property and got people killed. That's pretty fucked up. He should be facing charges. If anyone else had done that, they would be in jail right now.
I don't really care what happens to Trump, one way or another. He is done for good. On to the next guy.
BUT, I do think it's a stretch to call his speech incitement, which is probably why nobody has filed charges. It is anything but a clear that Trump's speech encouraged or was intended to encourage "imminent lawless actions."
Here's the "worst" of it:
"We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore,"
But, here, he is directly contradicting any intent to encourage "imminent lawless actions":
"I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard."
If the bar for incitement is reduced to that ridiculously low level, we can kiss the First Amendment goodbye.
