Is the GOP going to change, at all, as demographics change?

Opposing Authoritarian Ideological Fundamentalism.
Reading one of guno's endless celebratory "White Christians Are Dying Off" threads and his standard daily dose of hatred, nastiness and religious bigotry aside, I do have to think: The GOP is indeed going to continue to shrink unless it makes some decisions on a macro scale:
  • Is it going to continue to allow its loudest voices to ignore Reagan's 80% law and attack & alienate "RINOs" with the same energy it does with Democrats, alienating its own voters?
  • Is it going to continue to hold fast on social issues as politics, alienating the middle?
  • Is it going to continue to refuse to admit that it has no choice now but to somehow approach the various "identity groups" individually and with sincerity and passion?
  • Is it going to finally understand that it's allowing the wrong people to sell conservatism?
Or is it going to just keep doing what it's doing, as demographics keep changing against it?

Conservative talk show hosts were right about one thing in 2008: It was the most important election of our lifetimes. America is changing fundamentally. Every day.

Precisely what is the party going to do about it? Specifically?

Or, am I wrong, and the GOP is doing just fine as it is, and there is nothing to change?

Or, is Trump an admission that the party can no longer sell conservatism?

.

Dang!

Nothing?

Mac,

They are doing as much as they are doing in congress...

But Mac seriously.. The GOP has problems with its membership and the media... Right Wing Radio, Media and Fox News has created a narrative that in a lot of cases is not reality... So you see it on this forum, people are using places like Politifact and they are calling it Left stream bias...
They have lost a connection to reality... So along comes Trump and re-enforces the narrative and goes further.. He now is telling them what they want to hear and all other sources have an agenda. So they even turned on Fox News for a while...

I agree with that to an extent. There's definitely an echo chamber feel right now, an alternate universe.

The country needs (at least) two strong, united parties, so it concerns me.
.

Change is the only certain thing. If it will be what that party hopes for is another matter. We (America and the world) have been so poorly served by both parties of the two-party dictatorship that it is hard to wish either well.

It isn't particularly clear that two or more parties are even necessary.

It is an interesting question Mac asks. When I think of the Republican Party, the first thing that I think of is intolerance. A/An “we’re right, we know we’re right, you’re wrong and you’re too stupid to know how wrong you are” group that is resistant to science and nuanced topics.

Judging from this website, they don’t need to change anything. There seems to be an unending supply of yokels who fit the category.

Either it is going to change, or we're going to start hearing words like Scexit, and Alexit.

First of all, let us note how quickly you let the Left off for it's hatred, nastiness and religious bigotry. Now, I am certainly you are thinking that Guno is a worst case scenario.

But you are wrong. Guno is only speaking aloud, what his Party's is actually DOING on purpose, ie, inflicting demographic transformation because they can't win the Contest of Ideas.

  • Is it going to continue to allow its loudest voices to ignore Reagan's 80% law and attack & alienate "RINOs" with the same energy it does with Democrats, alienating its own voters?
Are you kidding? Have you compared the energy McCain showed going after his primary challenger compared to how he went after Obama?

The Establishment is the one that has been playing Harder Ball with it's internal opposition than the dems.

  • Is it going to continue to hold fast on social issues as politics, alienating the middle?
Social issues do not alienate the Middle. The exaggerations of the Media alienate the Middle. Question: Do you believe that Bush banned stem cell research?

  • Is it going to continue to refuse to admit that it has no choice now but to somehow approach the various "identity groups" individually and with sincerity and passion?
We cannot even attempt to out pander the dems for the votes of minorities without supporting discrimination against Whites. We would fail to attract the majority of minority voters and alienate our base. Not to mention that anti-white discrimination is wrong, of course.

  • Is it going to finally understand that it's allowing the wrong people to sell conservatism?
This isn't about the people doing the "selling". The GOP always wins the White vote. Why? Because minus Identity Politics Capitalism and Democracy sells better than socialism.

This is about the democratic plan to achieve political dominance by importing Third World political culture.

Which has been successful.

Or is it going to just keep doing what it's doing, as demographics keep changing against it?

If Trump loses, that is what will happen. YOu will have the Country Club republicans trying to find the right "messenger" and fighting a losing battle to curry favor with minorities, as they have been. Increasing marginalization of whites will lead to increasing anger among republican voters, with no possibility of their interests or concerns every being addressed.

Their anger will be portrayed by the media as "Racism". And that will be believed by the majority of the nation comprised of Liberals and Minorities and they will react accordingly.

Repeat until something breaks.

Well, Trump is a major attempt to deal with the downside of "Free Trade" and Third World Immigration, AND to challenge the lock on the Conventional Wisdom that Political Correctness has.

It is very late in the game, but there is no reason to not try.

If this doesn't work and we end up with 8 more years of status quo, I think at that point, democracy stop working in America.

Or, am I wrong, and the GOP is doing just fine as it is, and there is nothing to change?

Oh, no, you're not wrong. The current situation is a fucking disaster for American and Americans.

Or, is Trump an admission that the party can no longer sell conservatism?
.

Conservatism is NOT wedded to being the world's bitch on Trade and Immigration. If Trump wins, and the Party can integrate that truth into our ideology, there might be some hope.

And yet in your very post you spew intolerance. Interesting.

What about you makes you tolerable?

The two political parties are political puppets bought and paid for by the establishment. The best we can hope from them is a few crumbs and hope.

Bernie Sanders was the only transparent candidate not hiding his radical optimist agenda. As with Trump, he offers the other half what they want right now which is a punching bag for Americans to release their frustrations and vent. Hillary on the other hand is playing it safe to prevent stepping on any toes with radical change by not playing the extreme card. She's not a revolutionary

No, it's all the hate and name-calling you so consistently spew.

Clearly you don't even realize you're doing it.

Interesting.

The guy who's called the liberals here 'regressives' in a thousand posts suddenly wants to pontificate about the evils of namecalling.

If you can't tell the difference between Mac and Guno, you are a blind fool.

Would you say, then, that the Trump supporters within the party are what is best for the party's future as demographics continue to shift?

Progressive change scares the New Right, they would like a return to the late 19th Century, a time when racism was acceptable, the Income Tax didn't exist and poor houses served those too old to work & widows whose husband died on the job or because the bread winner had a minor infection left untreated because he could not afford to take a day off work to see a doctor he could not afford to pay.

Such is the nature of simplistic, binary thought.

And of dishonesty. Notice he avoids the fact that I take the phrase from multiple honest lefties, who use it specifically.

It is what it is.
