Iran may not be the good guys. But when they are threatened and attacked, the incentive is to arm up, not roll over.

I wouldn't call that logic. Trump and Netanyahu have rightly threatened the radical Islamist leadership that has vowed to annihilate the US and Israel. When someone threatens to kill you, it's your right and duty to defend yourself. The majority of the Iranian people don't like the radicals who are running their country either.
