Um, we aren't paying enough taxes, which is why we are 30 trillion in debt. Or more specifically, the RICH aren't paying enough in taxes.

How is it that only women get divorced? Seems to me that just as many men get divorced.

The West had abortions because it's impossible to raise a kid on reduced salaries. I come from a large Catholic family, and my parents had five kids back in the 1960s. So did nearly everyone else in the neighborhood. One family had 8 kids going through the Catholic system.

So what happened? My generation limited itself to two kids because that was all they could really afford.

Now, some of that was economics, and some of that was lifestyle choices. Not just the US but the entire "Global North" has made this decision. Not reproducing at replacement rates because nice houses and nice cars were a priority.

The US and Europe are dealing with this problem through immigration, as much as they don't like it. Meanwhile, Japan, S. Korea, and even China are locked into demographic death spirals of getting old before they get rich.

If there was one thing that put you off the idea of marriage, it was watching some senior NCO who was going through his second divorce and his wife finding out that his first wife already has a claim on half his paycheck and pension.
