There is no one on the planet who pays closer attention to what people are saying about them than him. He's well-aware that (a) any number of legal entanglements are imminent and (b) the party, his "media", and the street-level rubes are now looking for any excuse to move on from him.

At the same time, he's also keenly aware of his residual cult leader-like status within the party. He knows he'll get their vote if he can just hang on and win the primary. They have to save America from Satan and Hitler and the commies 'n such.

It's a complicated time for him. And he and his flock don't like complexity. Oh, to be a fly on that ketchup-soaked Mar-A-Lago wall, huh?
