Yes, of course the general concept is good. It's not good when it is skewed. Like many other things.

Exactly. It's the scope of democracy that matters - what should we vote on and what should we leave for people to sort out on their own? It seems reasonable to vote on who will be President, for example, but we don't need majority rule to decide how everyone must do health care, or education, or the various social engineering schemes people are excited about.
