Is creating unnecessary opposition an intelligent thing to do?

You truly are lost. To begin with, I am no "kid". I am 79 years old and a stock market ANALYST for 47 years. I don't know what your qualifications are but I am sure I have more experience doing this than you.

This is not about PLEASING anyone. It is about not having everyone working against you. It is about the concept that agreement (compromise) is what works and not "my way or the highway" mentality..

Then again, that is probably not something you understand or know anything about.
Cooperation requires multiple parties WILLING to cooperate. The American voters elected a man and gave him authority to enact his agenda. Those who reflexively oppose every single thing he says and does are reflexively opposing the voters who put him there and are making it clear they have NO intention whatsoever of cooperating with anything. They will not compromise and only broadcast their "my way or the highway" mentality.

BS

But it DOES work to stand firm and not kowtow to people who need us much more than we need them.

A looming trade war between the US and Colombia appears to have been averted after the Colombian government agreed to allow US military flights carrying deported migrants to land in the Andean country.

Just out of curiosity Luckyone: were you preaching this gospel of cooperation when the Democrats were attacking Donald Trump? Did you tell them to stop the lawfare? Did you object to them stuffing ballot boxes in swing states in 2020?

Are there posts you can link me to where you objected to the vile personal attacks on Donald Trump and his family? How strongly did you object to the raid on Donald Trump‘s home in Mar a Lago, including going through his wife’s underwear drawer?

I guess what I’m asking. Is this spirit of Kumbaya something you’ve always advocated or this is an ad hoc thing now that the opposition is in power?

Answer with links, please.

Really? Enlarge on that, please.

BS.

Your words define who the Republicans are, and not who the Democrats are.

You mean "the BULLY mentality, right?

It is being a BULLY to insist that they take their own people? It is a violation of human rights to refuse to allow someone to return to their own country.

Do we not see on this board such reflexive opposition to every move or utterance TRUMP! makes, complete with incessant, daily threads started with the sole object to complain about something he said or did? Do we not see proclamations of "RESIST", and "NOT MY PRESIDENT" from the usual suspects who can't deal with the fact that their candidate lost the election?

Why yes, we do. Can you with any legitimacy say those people are willing to compromise with the administration? No, you can't. Are they exhibiting a "my way or the highway" mentality? Yes, they are. Therefore it stands that I am correct in my assessment. You are pretending the problem lies with the Republicans while turning a blind eye to the extreme opposition in the democrats. Cooperation requires MULTIPLE parties to agree on something. Prove me wrong.

The opposition is weaki?

This is not about strength or weakness, it is about unity or disunity. It is about being alone or being together. Alone is never good, no matter the strength.
The people who hold all the cards right now have no interest in unity. Zero. They think their opposition is, literally, evil. They'd much rather see you suffer than smile.

So the best thing the Dems can do right now is make themselves more attractive for 2026. They need to look in the mirror and decide if they're doing what that would take.

Those NOW crying out for unity would be more credible had they expressed such a strong desire for it when they were in power and taken steps to show that desire, demonstrate their willingness to compromise, etc.

It's a two way street. A group effort.

The ends of our political spectrum are killing us.

Just out of curiosity Luckyone: were you preaching this gospel of cooperation when the Democrats were attacking Donald Trump? Did you tell them to stop the lawfare? Did you object to them stuffing ballot boxes in swing states in 2020?

This is exactly where the problem lies....................stuffing ballots? BS

Nine Election Fraud Claims, None Credible
Are there posts you can link me to where you objected to the vile personal attacks on Donald Trump and his family? How strongly did you object to the raid on Donald Trump‘s home in Mar a Lago, including going through his wife’s underwear draw

The funny thing is that the "vile personal attacks" on Trump were absolutely EARNED by him and his actions. Actions you refuse to acknowledge even though it has been PROVEN over and over again.

Trump’s false or misleading claims total 30,573 over 4 years
I guess what I’m asking. Is this spirit of Kumbaya something you’ve always advocated or this is an ad hoc thing now that the opposition is in power?

I have never advocated "the spirit of kumbaya". What I have advocated repeatedly are 2 things

1) What we have had in the U.S. for over 240 years, which is "compromise among the parties", which recently the Republicans have abandoned as the Far Right is all about "our way or the highway:
2) No UNECESSARY opposition stimulus, such as revenge causes. Just this weekend, Trump imposed 25% tariffs (that will go up to 50% if they do not do what Trump wants) to both Venezuela and Colombia refusing to accept those illegal aliens sent back. This was revenge and not a tariff for economic reasons. Such actions cause problems (do not solve them)

So, to recap:

You insist that Donald Trump should cooperate with Democrats and with Democrat-model countries, such as Columbia and Venezuela.

But when I ask if you have ever advocated democrats cooperating with Donald Trump, your answer is words to the effect of: “No, he’s too horrible!”

This is the fallacy of special pleading.

It's a two way street. A group effort.

The ends of our political spectrum are killing us.
It is a two-way street and someone has to break the cycle. I don't see anyone willing to spend the political capital to do it.

It is being a BULLY to insist that they take their own people? It is a violation of human rights to refuse to allow someone to return to their own country.
Wrong statement. These people are not CHOOSING to go back, they are being forced to go back. There is such a thing as asylum seeking from people fearing for their own lives in their countries. Forcing them to go back could be a death sentence.

My OP was about general common sense. It is idiotic to generate UNECESSARY opposition.

Are you sure that those now being deported are asylum seekers and not violent criminals?

I am not insisting on anything. My OP is about UNECESSARY opposition. My way or the highway mentality, especially when you are talking about the fact that Democrats are 50% of the population and as president, you should be taking care of ALL Americans, not just those that support you

My OP was about general common sense. It is idiotic to generate UNECESSARY opposition.
Yes, it is idiotic, which is why I call out the usual suspects for doing it.
