Is Aliens a sci fi masterpiece??

Both movies succeeded in giving us a believable female action lead that didn't feel forced at all.

The Ripley character is definitely one of my favorite female characters in film.
Forced? What the f does that even mean? Ripley was a super hero fighting against aliens. That same concept bothers you old folks now because you saw this one when you were young and not turds. The movies didnt change.. you old folks... got old.

Sorry, but plenty seems forced right now. Race, sex, sexuality all thrust into entertainment for DEI bullshit.

The industry decided to be insulting to its audience. Your insults are meaningless in the face of reality.

Using Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury worked. Using Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin worked.

That black guy they used as Snape didn't work.

Kara Thrace as Starkbuck worked. Deciding Snow white wasn't white didn't work.

Meh. You idiots HATED female Starbuck until the show turned out great. Good shows are good. Bad shows are bad. Its not this fake woke idiocy your ass is stained with. You guys hate Supergirl because she's opinionated. Whoa. Sigourney Weaver was a noted feminist who went toe to toe with Reagan over it. She's an environmentalist and huge democrat. You did not care when you were young. You just liked good movies. Now your life has been sullied and spoiled by your old man bitterness.

You were all Dirk Benedict in 2009 talking about what turned into the greatest sci-fi adventure ever made:

I was OK with it once I saw they stayed true to the character archetype.

We don't like it when it's forced. You can't accept that because in your addled head everything has to result from bigotry and hatred.

Thinks can suck, and things suck more when lefties try to get all preachy

And it's not the greatest sci-fi. it's excellent, but got too gushy the last season or so.

Giving up all their tech? Nope.

Life would suck without creative geniuses pushing boundaries. Otherwise you'd still be watch boring westerns. Not everything hits with everyone but the fact is at some point you guys got old and started hating anything that wasnt 100% familiar. You lost your ability to dream, and your desire to learn and have new experiences. All you want is stuff from your youth to remind you what it was like being young instead of staying young your whole life. People dont have to age into grumpy haters.. they choose to.

You all dont seem like universal idiots to me. You just seem like you are stuck 40 years ago. My opinion.

Do you think 86, Aliens is a sci fi masterpiece like blade runner or T2 ??

Or is Aliens just a basic “bug shooter “ with horrible 80s costumes ???

What u think ??
I loved it. I still love it. I could watch that movie 20 times, and still enjoy it.

To me, it's one of the few movies that has replay value.

It doesn't have any glaring plot holes, or total story telling blunders. He's got action. Great cast. Good actors. It builds perfectly from the 1979 Alien movie, and is relatively believable.

T2, you always have to think... wait... if they can send one terminator back in time, why not 50?

That said T2 was a great movie as well, but it was more of a classic action, whereas Aliens was an action horror film. So it's not entirely the same feel, and story type. It's hard to compare.

I'd say both were good in their own way.

I was not as much a fan of "Enhance... enhance.... enhance... enhance..." Blade Runner. It was not a bad movie, but I have never felt any desire to watch it again. Just have a guy make every possible action to kill you, and then when he finally gets you cornered, he lets you live for no explainable reason, and that's the finally? Just like his girlfriend or whatever she was before, beat the snot out of him, and then instead of running away, she runs towards him until he shoots her.... why would she do that? Was she trying to live? Was she trying to escape? Was she trying to kill him? Or was she engaging in suicide by cop? And if so, why did she beat him nearly to death?

So many aspects of that movie I found lame and illogical.

It was a long way from the last Ripley movie, Alien Resurrection....Entertaining but very dark.

Agreed. I didn't really care for all that much after the first two. And to be fair the best part of the first movie, is that it setup the second movie.

For the first time in decades, there is not a single star trek in production

Guess why

50 terminators ?? That don’t make sense lol

What about Matrix ??

The only Alien film I'd say is OBJECTIVELY a masterpiece is the first one. Aliens is a great film but it fails to capture the Lovecraftian unknowable strangeness of the original. I'm going to get hate for this, but I honestly like Alien 3 more than Aliens. Resurrection is trash. Prometheus: trash. Covenant: trash. Romulus: okay. Alien Earth: garbage.

What about Matrix ??
What I mean is that the very moment that skynet sent a terminator through the time machine, it would have known instantly that the terminator it sent didn't succeed, because that failure would have been documented history.

So it would have sent another. And if that failed, another. Until one finally succeeded. The instant the terminator went through... skynet would know it needed to send another, and another, and so on until it succeeded. So yeah, 50 terminators later, or even 100, until it won. But of course that would have made for a bad story, so for whatever reason it only sent 1 terminator each time because it made for a good plot line.

Matrix was great. That has infinite replay value.

The story problem was minor, which was that at the end of Matrix, they made Neo seem invincible, and then in matrix 2, suddenly he wasn't invincible anymore.

But even so, taken as a whole, I thought the Matrix movies were extremely good, and I've watched all three many times.

Also Agent Smith was just amazing. I think the movie would not have worked without Hugo Weaving playing Agent Smith. He was a very believable enemy for Neo and the plot line.

Even so, I find it hard comparing movies so far apart in time. Matrix was 1999, and Aliens was 1986. Both are kings of times they were created. If they both came out in 1999, Matrix would be my top choice. But again, in 1986, there was no way to do a movie like the Matrix, and Aliens one of the best movies of the 1980s.

The technical ability to do a movie like Matrix simply didn't exist in 1986. Would it have made a difference? I don't know. Honestly. One of those hypotheticals that can't really be answered.

But both are amazing films, that even to this day are entertaining and fun to watch again.

Aliens is so good due to characters and intensity of scenes

The costumes were aweful
