The IRS doesn't give a shit about citizens. They don't care that people's Social Security files will be screwed up or that they might get taxed again the next year for getting a huge refund. Employers are forbidden from looking too hard at an employees information. Liberal lawyers make sure that no one bothers the illegal aliens here. No concern over the damage done to citizens. One year, the Social Security administration sent out letters to employers who had large numbers of employees with suspect numbers. Liberal lawyers stopped that, claiming it was tantamount to deportation notices. They refuse to do anything to scare illegal aliens or give them the impression that they might face penalties for identity theft or being here illegally.

There are no liberal organizations fighting for citizens who have their credit destroyed, face huge tax bills because of illegals who work using their identity, children who discover they have poor credit and owe bills before they reach 16 and many others who have been denied benefits because an illegal's income is too high or those who have had their Social Security accounts and retirement accounts hijacked by illegal aliens using their identities.

It's not a rare problem and it's not a small problem. Millions of people over the years have faced serious financial problems as a result of an illegal stealing their identity. Local police can't do anything because it's a federal matter. The feds don't do shit most of the time. Little recourse for those affected by this growing problem.

"The IRS has discovered more than 1 million Americans whose Social Security numbers were stolen by illegal immigrants, but officials never bothered to tell the taxpayers themselves, the agency’s inspector general said in a withering new report released Tuesday.

Investigators first alerted the IRS to the problem five years ago, but it’s still not fixed, the inspector general said, and a pilot program meant to test a solution was canceled — and fell woefully short anyway.

As a result, most taxpayers don’t learn that their identities have been stolen and their Social Security files may be screwed up.

“Taxpayers identified as victims of employment-related identity theft are not notified,” the inspector general said.

The report alarmed lawmakers on Capitol Hill, who were shocked that the IRS had gone for so long without fixing the issue.

“It is stunning that the IRS has chosen to aid and abet identity thieves for so long instead of protecting the innocent victims of the theft,” said Sen. Daniel Coats, Indiana Republican.

Victims’ numbers are stolen by illegal immigrants who need to give employers a valid Social Security number in order to get a job. Employers are prohibited from probing too deeply into numbers, even when they suspect fraud.

But the IRS learns of the scam when the illegal immigrants file their taxes using a special Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) the agency doles out chiefly to illegal immigrants as a way of making sure they’re paying taxes even if they’re not supposed to be in the U.S.

Between 2011 and 2015 the agency flagged nearly 1.1 million returns where someone appeared to have stolen a valid Social Security number, the inspector general said."

Good old government workers.... sigh...

They were following orders from high ups.

It's disgusting. Technically, the numbers belong to government, not us, so they don't feel they need to inform us when illegals are using our SSNs. Of course, when they use our identities, that should be a different story but the government is more interested in protecting illegal aliens than citizens.

"Most (98 percent) Social Security number (SSN) thieves use their own names with stolen numbers. The federal E-Verify program, now mandated in only 14 states, can detect this fraud. Universal, mandatory use of E-Verify would curb this and stop virtually 100 percent of child identity theft.

Illegal immigration and high levels of identity theft go hand-in-hand. States with the most illegal immigration also have high levels of job-related identity theft. In Arizona, 33 percent or all identity theft is job-related (as opposed to identity theft motivated simply by profit). In Texas it is 27 percent; in New Mexico, 23 percent; in Colorado, 22 percent; California, 20 percent; and in Nevada, 16 percent. Eight of the 10 states with the highest percentage of illegal aliens in their total population are among the top 10 states in identity theft (Arizona, California, Florida, Texas, Nevada, New York, Georgia, and Colorado).
Children are prime targets. In Arizona, it is estimated that over one million children are victims of identity theft. In Utah, 1,626 companies were found to be paying wages to the SSNs of children on public assistance under the age of 13. These individuals suffer very real and very serious consequences in their lives.

Illegal aliens commit felonies in order to get jobs. Illegal aliens who use fraudulent documents, perjure themselves on I-9 forms, and commit identity theft in order to get jobs are committing serious offenses and are not “law abiding.”

Illegally employed aliens send billions of dollars annually to their home countries, rather than spending it in the United States and helping stimulate the American economy. In October 2008 alone, $2.4 billion was transferred to Mexico.

Tolerance of corruption erodes the rule of law. Corruption is a serious problem in most illegal aliens’ home countries. Allowing it to flourish here paves the way for additional criminal activity and increased corruption throughout society.

Leaders support perpetrators and ignore victims. Political, civic, religious, business, education, and media leaders blame Americans for “forcing” illegal aliens to commit document fraud and identity theft. No similar concern is expressed for the American men, women, and children whose lives are destroyed in the process.

The Social Security Administration and Internal Revenue Service facilitate illegal immigrant-driven identity theft. Both turn a blind eye to massive SSN fraud and take no action to stop it. The Social Security Administration assigns SSNs to new-born infants that are being used illegally. The IRS demands that victims pay taxes on wages earned by illegal aliens using their stolen SSNs, while taking no action to stop the identity theft."

Illegal, but Not Undocumented

If illegal aliens were magically deported and new ones prevented then.....

Where in Hell would The Democrat Party get a presidential candidate when it's their turn again in 150 years or thereabouts?

As long as they don't use my SS number other than to have a place for their employers to put funds in, I would think it benefits me since they can't collect.

The more SS contributions to my account the better. The more contributions, the higher the payout.

There have been cases where a person checked their retirement or Social Security accounts and found that the name had been changed even though it still showed their number. In that case, good luck getting help from the government to correct it.

Biggest danger is ending up with bad credit when they use your number and default on loans or fail to pay taxes. One woman had the IRS after her because several illegal aliens were working using her number and failed to pay taxes. Didn't help that it was impossible for her to be working 3 jobs at the same time in three different states.

One woman discovered an illegal alien using her identity to work. The woman had purchased a nice home, all in her name. She called police and was told that it was a federal matter. She was getting no help from the feds and was unable to get credit, benefits or work because it was like she was the criminal.

It does not surprise me, the corrupt organization needs to die a quick and painful death. And of course the illegal aliens are going to do that sort of thing... everything about their life is illegal.

Libs always claim that there are so few consequences of allowing illegals to enter and live here.

It's clearly not a minor problem. Over a million citizens have had their SSNs stolen just in the last few years. There are millions affected. Children are affected even though many have no idea yet.

How far do we let this go before the left admits we have a problem? Retirement accounts, SS accounts, credit rating and debt greatly influence our chances of survival. These things are getting messed up by illegal aliens stealing our numbers and sometimes our identities. And the left rolls their eyes and pretend that so few have been affected by illegal aliens being here.

Understood which is why I said it benefits me if they ONLY use my SS account for contributions by their employers. Identity theft for getting loans and stealing my ID for other purposes is a different matter.

Hell, if five illegals use my SS to make contributions to, I'm all for it. If I find out about it, I just may retire early.:banana::banana::banana::banana:

LOL, it would be nice if it worked out that way. I also wonder about taking possession of a car or house purchased in your name and SS number. Or maybe withdrawing all the money out of a bank account bearing your name and SSN. Or would liberal lawyers come after you for stealing your identity back, as well as anything purchased, supposedly by "you."

I think identity theft is a little more complicated than that. Just getting a SS number and name isn't enough. Hell, if that's all it takes, just buy yourself a police scanner and copy names, DR license numbers, and SS numbers all day long.

My bank (for instance) won't even give you information about a loan unless you prove who you are. They want account numbers, answer security questions, tell them the last five transactions you made with your checking account before they will even talk to you. I seriously doubt somebody would try to buy a car or house with just an SS number.

It has happened. After Clinton revived Carter's Community Reinvestment Act, banks were forced to make loans to people in bad neighborhoods. People got no-docs loans. Very little info was needed to get loans.

I remember getting credit cards at stores just for filling out the application. No ID needed. All you needed was a name and SS number and an address. The app did ask for amount of income but it was so easy to get credit. You can still apply online with basic info that is easy for some to steal.

Once you have the account, you choose the security questions provide the answers.

It is harder now to open a bank account. Security has increased in response to the rampant theft.

We certainly can't rely on government to help us prevent theft of our SSNs or identities.

What, no libs want to come and try to deny that there is a major problem with illegals stealing people's SSNs?

If it ever happens to you I think you will change your mind.

Employers are required to report all wages an employee receives to the Social Security Administration (SSA). The SSA eventually downloads all his information into the IRS data banks. Unfortunately, the IRS does not receive this information until after the filing deadline so they must first accept the financial information supplied by the taxpayer. The income that was earned by an illegal alien (say $40,000) using your name and social security number will be posted to your official IRS account a few months after you file your return.

You will file a proper return declaring all your income and withholding and get a refund check and think everything is OK, but it isn't. You see, the IRS computers compare the information on your return with the financial information stored in the IRS files. Months later, you get a letter saying you failed to declare $40,000 in wages. The IRS will demand you pay the taxes on this income along with interests and penalties. You can bet that the one who earned $40,000 in wages declared enough dependents to avoid having any tax withholding so that you are going to pay all the taxes on the entire amount.

If you did not file a return, you will still get hit by the IRS. The IRS computers are programmed to verify that a return is filed when the financial information in its data bank determines filing is required. The IRS will file a return for you (called a Substitute For Return or SFR) and you will receive a tax bill based upon income of $40,000 (plus any other income in your IRS account). In a SFR you can only claim yourself as an exemption (no dependents) and a standard deduction. You are denied the benefits available for those who file a return. You will also be assessed a failure-to-file penalty along with accumulate interest on the amount owed. It might take a year or more before you get the SFR and the tax bill will make your head swim.

From the income of $40,000 you would be allowed to deduct a standard deduction of $6,300 and a personal exemption for $4,050 leaving you with taxable income of $29,650. Taxes on $29,650 would be $3,988 (from the IRS 2016 Tax Table). In addition you would owe interest in the amount of $239.88 ($3,988 at .5 percent a month for 12 months). Finally, there will be a failure to file penalty of $135. Your total tax liability will be $4,362.88. When you get the bill you are not going to be a happy camper.

not really you would never get the W2 for the income paid to the identity thief and you would be on the hook for not reporting that income as well as for the taxes due on that income

I don't know about that. If the government can't catch people putting money into your account, I doubt they would question it when paying it back.

I don't know about that because I applied for a Home Equity loan just last year. I had to provide three identifications, they called my employer, and of course, I had to provide my checking and savings account information with the bank I usually do business with. Then of course they check your credit rating.

Getting credit cards and such? Yes, it doesn't take much for that, but that's usually corrected pretty easily. The two easiest ways to catch thieves are stolen checks and credit cards because most places where you use them have video cameras. Any half-way reliable institution would question a different billing address than what's on your credit report.

As long as they don't use my SS number other than to have a place for their employers to put funds in, I would think it benefits me since they can't collect.

The more SS contributions to my account the better. The more contributions, the higher the payout.
not really you would never get the W2 for the income paid to the identity thief and you would be on the hook for not reporting that income as well as for the taxes due on that income

I don't know about that. If the government can't catch people putting money into your account, I doubt they would question it when paying it back.

one thing the IRS will eventually do is get the money they are owed
and it's not the paying it back it's the failure to report the income
