Very stupid idea. Iron Dome shoots down Hamas' flying pipes, it won't stop a flight of Russian Oreshniks or Chinese hyper-sonic missiles. We don't have the money to waste.

Reagan's "Star Wars" defense system was a boondoggle. But even it is better than "Iron Dome'.

You are getting into "space based" defense systems. The best time to kill an incoming ICBM is as it ascends, not after it MIRVs.
Then there are cruise type or low flying hyper-sonic missiles, maybe even sub launched, hard to hit and even detect.

IMHO the best defense is guaranteeing total nuclear destruction.

Local defense systems around our missile silos makes some sense, but other than that its a waste of money.

OK, but my main point is that the US has a huge land area so defending every square mile like "Iron Dome" does for Israel is stupid, the Iron Dome can shoot down slow & crude missiles from Hamas, but shooting down Oreshniks is a lot harder if not impossible.

I could see deploying defensive missiles around our ICBM silos to protect our response, but Trump may be very wrong pushing the Iron Dome now. We don't have the money anyway.

Oh we are never going to have that sort of iron dome Israel has for sure. That would take a massive number of patriot missiles at $4M a pop excluding the launchers and staffing.

Point of Information:
1. Trump's "Iron Dome" is just a name, it is NOT the same system Israel uses.
2. Trump's "Iron Dome" is primarily space-based, so it might help against ICBMs but probably not against sub-launched or plane launched or ship launched hyper-sonic missiles like Oreshnik.
