1) Both Russia and America has "pretty good" Deterrence Type I, which means that both sides are sure, that even in the case of full-scale counter-force attack on the other side, the other side, anyway, will be able, by its retaliation strike, kill more than 30% of attacker's population (it's not exactly true, but just imagine it for the game), and, therefore both sides won't attack each other however provocative other side is. Neither side see Middle East as "vital", only as "very important". It makes Regional (Middle East) Nuclear war quite possible, because both Russia and America rather accept results of the regional conflict (what ever they are) than escalate to Russia-American war.
2) Let's imagine that the USA has a plan of a regional nuclear war that will defeat Iran (and take it's gas and oil), but, during this conflict Israel will be totally devastated.
3) Russia is not interested in the destruction of Israel, but saving Israel is just "low-priority goal". Lesser important than saving Iran or taking Arabic oil.

If America chose "escalate" (in this game) and use nukes - Iran will be defeated, but Israel will be destroyed. If America chose "de-escalation" it means that the whole Middle East step by step goes under control of Russia, China and Iran, but Israel survives under Russia's protection.

What America would choose in this Solomon's problem - oil or Jews? I think, answer is clear. You will choose oil and genocide of Israel. That's the problem of being America's ally.
