New Insights on Why Harris Lost—and Why Democrats Are in Such a Hole

For those of us who study American politics, it’s always a treat when David Shor pops up to offer his insights on the latest election.

This is a fascinating article that breaks down the 2024 Presidential Race and offers new details on why the Dems lost. The most interesting insight to me was that Trump won so-called low propensity voters. The Dems have believed that they will almost always win higher turnout elections. Hence, the reason why the Dems support minimal voting controls. Just get any warm body to the polls and they will win.

Turns out the GOP and Trump handily won voters who typically do not turn out to vote. This is a huge shift in the electorate. Also, Trump won males overwhelmingly, and young voters as well. This tells me Dems may do better in mid-term elections where the GOP usually does better, and the GOP will do better in National elections with Presidential Candidates on the ticket.
