Instagram-famous squirrel seized by authorities in New York. His rescuer is fighting to get him back

“They treated me like I was a terrorist. They treated this raid as if I was a drug dealer. They ransacked my house for five hours,” Longo told The Post Saturday.
“They asked my wife, who is of German descent, what her immigration status was. They asked if I had cameras in my house. They wouldn’t allow me to go to the bathroom without a police escort, who then checked the back of the toilet to see if I was hiding anything there.”

This more than anything illustrates where the far left's true idea of government and democracy is taking us if they remain unchecked. The sad thing is that had the guy just moved a couple miles to the south, he would have been in Pennsylvania and there likely never would have been a problem.
The whole Covid episode metaphorized with a squirrel.
Peanut was one of us. :salute:

Peanut was one of us.

I've had a pet chipmunk and rabbit many years ago. They were wild and didn't come inside, but they allowed us to feed them, the chipmunk ate out of our hand, so I sympathize with these people.

Once, both of them were out on the patio eating seeds and lettuce, and the rabbit was taking the seeds blocking the chipmunk's path to the seeds. She was a big chipmunk.

Suddenly, the chipmunk bolted across the patio at fantastic speed and headbutted the rabbit right in the ass sending the rabbit straight up into the air three feet! The rabbit didn't know what hit him. Seeds went everywhere. :SMILEW~130:

I'm not defending what they did one bit, but a friend who does wildlife rehab had a different opinion than I expected.

She said he was given SEVEN YEARS to get his permits to have wildlife as a rehabber. He didn't. He also used the animals to build a following on Tiktok and Instagram. She said the authorities monitor these accounts and he was warned he was being watched. She holds HIM responsible and if he kept a low profile, Peanut and the raccoon would be alive today

Interesting. I had a similar thought. It was people on the net who blew the whistle and the same thing occurred to me that had these people not made such a show of these pets, the raid probably would have never happened.

The raid was pure evil and a complete waste of taxpayer resources. I despise out of control governments. But she wasn't wrong.

Amusing how you guys think if Zeldin had won the governor's race the outcome of this somehow would have been different.
I never made any such claim, NY is run by Dems on a state and local level in most parts.

I wonder what the state spent to send ten gestapo troops to a far remote corner of the state then spend five hours there raiding the home with a search warrant issued by a judge to nab the critters to then put them to sleep?

The insanity that is NYC never ends. Murders, rapes, prostitution, assaults, illegal immigration, extortion, human trafficking, government malfeasance, robbery, sexual exploitation and the powers that be have nothing better to do than to track down an illegal pet. SMFH.

I don't know why there is resistance with some people when they are shown a legal pathway to get what they want and their response is "you can't tell me what to do!"

It is indeed unfortunate if all he had to do was file some paperwork and the animals would have been fine, but on the other hand, there is still NO excuse for the way this raid was carried out, as if he was a wanted felon who murdered someone.
