The problem with Electric Vehicles is that it is actually anti-environmental in the long run. The material resources to produce the batteries for Electric Vehicles is finite and requires mining to obtain. For instance, in Chile, the lithium mining uses nearly 65% of the water in the country's Salar de Atamaca region, thus causing ground water depletion and pollution. If one looks at the locations of the materials needed for the batteries and the problems associated with obtaining them, it becomes clear that going to Electric Vehicles is not pro-environment.
That said, fossil fuel transportation is also anti-environment. As it stands today, our transportation needs can't be met with solar either.
The best solution for automobiles and aircraft is really Hydrogen Fuel celled vehicles. Hydrogen is every bit as efficient as gasoline powered vehicles, far less expensive than gasoline and as the industry has worked out the problems with the Hydrogen volatility, we must create Hydrogen fuel cell filling stations and vehicles. Their only emission is water vapor.
As for the overall "climate-change" issue, perhaps we should discuss with scientists who advocate terra-forming Mars and instead, point them to first start with terra-forming our own planet and thus see what can be done.
