It’s diversity for diversity’s sake. It’s how liberals are.well yes, but why the diversity? What's the reason? And schools like Northwestern or Harvard don't really have to relax standards to find qualitied blacks. STATE medical training schools certainly do. But is it a bad thing?
And it’s pretty universal, as I said. I can’t speak specifically to Northwestern or Harvard, but generally speaking, if med schools applied the same standards to everyone, regardless of color, and just took the top-scoring applicants, blacks would represent only about 3% or 4%. That’s why they relax the standards for blacks.
But here’s the thing: the students are tracked, and the program knows which blacks got in under the lesser standards, and the one-third or so of blacks who would have gotten in regardless. The blacks who got in under the more stringent standards do just as well as their white counterparts, as you would expect, while the students who only got in because standards were lowered struggle all the way through. There are some exceptions, but there is a very obvious pattern.
