I'm discouraged to see people giving in to their base hatred over political violence. I was raised to forgive, not forget. I was told, "Don't be that which you hate," yet I see it happening everywhere these days. This hyperpolarized political atmosphere is robbing us all of our humanity. Lots of people are seemingly sacrificing their highest morals for the most basest forms of hatred.

Am I naive? Perhaps. Am I old school? Yes! I wasn't raised to repay barbarity with barbarity.

Sometimes you have to meet violence with violence.

The problem is the left now considers some forms of speech to be "violence"

Yeah, why can't we all just get along?

The human psyche just does not work that way. We need an enemy.

The enemy used to be exterior to the Nation but now it is within.

The enemy is us.

Well, I will, should it be brought upon me. But I wouldn't go out looking for a fight.

I was never a vengeful person. I don't want to be. I prefer to be the nice, kind, silent type who people would be ill-advised to anger.

Surely, as the most intelligent living things on Earth, we can reason to be something better than an adversarial species?

The advice I got growing up is "Never start a fight, but always finish one"

These mass shootings and assassinations are a collective problem that should be addressed by both sides, together, to find a solution or remedy to reduce them, whether more mental institutions, studies on the affects of algorithms used on the young, perhaps covid isolation in their teen years affects, the political divisiveness surrounding them, any gaming woes, use of guns when young, etc etc etc and see if the appropriate experts can figure out why this seems to be trending worse?

Despite my wishes, wants, or insistences, I think the time for discovery has passed. The time for talking ended the moment the bullet ended Kirk's life that day.

It appears nobody is interested in that anymore. I guess I will be in the minority from now on.

And there you go. There is no difference between him being killed a few weeks ago, and a kid being shot in school classroom, or some child be killed by a stray bullet while doing their homework when the gangs outside start up. Dead is dead. One side just uses Charlie as yet another reason not to talk as they have never been truly part of the conversation to begin with.

But if they're not sorry, then what are you forgiving?
What they did.

Forgiveness can be just that. It can also be a release for the person wronged. An act of willingness to let go of the wrong done against them, for the sake of their own mental well-being.

Plenty of difference. Those tragedies brought forth changes in the law.
