I think liberals automatically side with those they perceive in the worst position, regardless of anything else - like whether they are in this country illegally. (That is also why they try to conflate legal immigrants with illegal aliens.)

They side with illegal aliens over the struggling American working class, the latter being the subgroup of citizens most hurt by the illegals’ suppressing wages and increasing rents. All they see is that the illegal aliens are the poorest, and ignore their illegal status.
