She of all people should know better than to threaten members of the U.S. Congress as well as the Vice President of the United States!
She was unarmed and she didn't threaten anyone. You don't have a clue what you are talking about. Have you ever served in the military? Stay in your lane.
Ashli was the one who took one for team MAGA.
Babbitt was nowhere near the congressional chamber.
Lt. Byrd as well as the rest of the officers there KNOW our representatives
Byrd has been disciplined for mishandling weapons. He was a paid assassin. Now run your partisan butt along and learn the facts before you run your mouth.

How so? He didn't even get a penalty!!! I'll say more when the appeal is over.

Greg
It will never be appealed now that he is president. The objective of the case was to derail his campaign, now that has failed, the case will be forgotten. The last thing the Democrats want is for Trump to be vindicated.

Some people in this discussion are unable to understand that Trump is not the subject of this thread.

No, a jury of people who had an ideological bias against Trump declared him guilty. If the case had been allowed to go to appeal, it would have been overturned for numerous violations by both the prosecutor AND THE JUDGE. Expecting Trump to get a fair trial in Manhattan would be like expecting MLK to get a fair trial in Atlanta Georgia in 1968.

Trumps legal team helped pick that jury.
Out of twelve jurors, they only needed to find ONE that believed Trumps defense.

Fact is, all jurors rejected Trumps claims

The case was initiated before Trump decided to run.

The crime is trespassing

If they are found to be working hard, staying out of trouble, give them work papers and let them stay

No harm, no foul
Your argument is not with me; it is with the United States Congress, which wrote the laws that these fukkers are breaking. If you don't like it, get Congress to change the laws. DO NOT give work papers to those who broke our laws. Do you reward the kid that licks the icing off the birthday cake? I think not.

They are breaking Civil Law, committing Civil Disobedience for the most of them. Only if they have been charged and convicted of the misdemeanor or felony for an illegal entry, are they criminals....otherwise, they committed a Civil law offense with a fine as penalty, similar to a parking ticket....under congressional immigration law.

I don’t care..
I have no problem with brown people. We have been looking the other way and taking advantage of their low cost labor for decades.
I would just as soon give them papers and let them stay

Trump' s team only had a very limited number of juror challenges, here is the relevant N.Y. law"

Criminal Procedure Law Section 270.25

  • peremptory challenge of an individual juror

1.

A peremptory challenge is an objection to a prospective juror for which no reason need be assigned. Upon any peremptory challenge, the court must exclude the person challenged from service.

2.

Each party must be allowed the following number of peremptory challenges:

(a)

Twenty for the regular jurors if the highest crime charged is a class A felony, and two for each alternate juror to be selected.

(b)

Fifteen for the regular jurors if the highest crime charged is a class B or class C felony, and two for each alternate juror to be selected.

(c)

Ten for the regular jurors in all other cases, and two for each alternate juror to be selected.

3.

When two or more defendants are tried jointly, the number of peremptory challenges prescribed in subdivision two is not multiplied by the number of defendants, but such defendants are to be treated as a single party. In any such case, a peremptory challenge by one or more defendants must be allowed if a majority of the defendants join in such challenge. Otherwise, it must be disallowed.

So Trump's team only had TEN preemptory challenges, and the judge precluded using voting records and social media posts as causes for challenges for cause. Here is a poll from Best Places.com showing the distrubution of votes inthe last presidential election:
"
New York County, NY is very liberal. In New York County, NY 86.4% of the people voted Democrat in the last presidential election, 12.2% voted for the Republican Party, and the remaining 1.4% voted Independent.

In the last Presidential election, New York (Manhattan) county remained overwhelmingly Democratic, 86.4% to 12.2%.
New York (Manhattan) county voted Democratic in every Presidential election since 2000."
So Trump's team could only remove TEN people Here is an excerpt from the jury selection from CNN:
"
About 100 prospective jurors at a time will be brought into Judge Juan Merchan’s courtroom to be vetted.

Twelve jurors will make up the panel that will ultimately consider the 34 counts of falsifying business records against Trump. Six alternates will also hear the case in case a juror on the main panel needs to be replaced.

Prospective jurors can be dismissed by the judge for cause if he finds they shouldn’t serve on the panel. Prosecutors and Trump’s defense team will also get 10 peremptory strikes they can use to remove a juror from the pool, no questions asked.

Court officials expect about 500 new jurors to appear each day to be available for the selection process, though some of those individuals will also be pulled to other cases in the court system."

We are a nation of laws. We pride ourselves on the order that our legal system instills. Yet we are also a nation of mercy and compassion; however, the fundamental question arises: If you commit a crime, should you be punished? That should be an easy answer, yet some insist upon exceptions to the law.

One such exception is illegal immigration. The majority of illegal immigrants come here to find work, yet the fact remains that they have still violated the law. They have taken jobs in critical industries, like construction, childcare, landscaping, manufacturing, etc. A majority of people insist upon a path to citizenship for these people, while others insist on deportation. Some claim that since these people are well-meaning, they shouldn't be rounded up and deported mercilessly.

But my question is, when do we enact the punishment? Why can't we punish them? They broke the law. Why should they be rewarded for breaching the sovereignty of another nation?
IF is the main word here. Trump committed no crime yet Democrats want to punish him.

Except the judge prevented Trump's defense for calling expert witnesses that would have testified that nothing Trump did was a crime. With no Federal Crime, the misdemeanor couldn't have been elevated to felony status and the statute of limitation had run out. The judge clearly had his thumb on the scales of justice.

So what if I registered as a Democrat in the 2028 primary election so I could vote for the least likely candidate, thinking my vote would skew the vote count?

Would that officially make me a "Democrat"?

"Rush Limbaugh may be his real name, but to millions of Democratic grassroots voters, especially on the left, the conservative icon who's been called the most influential radio broadcaster in America reigns as the political Prince of Darkness.

Even more so during a 2008 presidential race in which Limbaugh has assumed a new title, "commander," as he heads a drive dubbed "Operation Chaos," a gleeful and, he argues, increasingly successful effort to wreak havoc with the Democratic primary system and its candidates, Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.

Limbaugh's effort, which began early this year, is a call to arms urging conservatives and Republican voters to re-register as Democrats - and create chaos in that party's presidential nomination process by casting a vote..."

Something's are wrong, laws come about to make some wrongs illegal. Not all wrongs are illegal, those are called loopholes. But to be responsible and to live in a civilised society, folk generally follow the laws. If they don't, there's a punishment and the level of punishment could be viewed as a deterrent. Unfortunately, deterrents can often be poor and some are not bothered at the level of deterrent and they still commit the crime. Even the death penalty does not deter some.

So it's a constant problem. With illegal immigration, by all means spend thousands to be smuggled in, but expect to be deported after being caught. We all have ID, birth certificates etc.., so finding out if someone is legal takes seconds. All this court palaver is a waste of time and money.

The word 'exculpatory' is not in their lexicon when it comes to Trump.

It was all a plan.

Deportation is their punishment. Being rid of them quickly saves us money.
