I had already served 15 months active duty in the Navy when the law was passed.

Why should women have to register? Simple...............over the years, women have wanted to be able to serve equally alongside men, and our views towards women in combat have evolved to the point that women are allowed to serve in damn near every position that the military has. When I first joined back in '82, women weren't allowed to serve on forward deployed combat units. Pretty much the only ships they were allowed to go on were sub and destroyer tenders, which in addition to NOT being able to deploy to war zones, they were pretty much cemented to the pier. It wasn't until the late 80's/early 90's that I first saw women starting to be able to show up on combat vessels, and now? They are on damn near every ship the Navy has, so yeah, since we have the billets that need filled and women can fill them now, they SHOULD have to register for the Selective Service.
