I remember Iran offering it's citizens $7 to not protest their regime.

Imagine being so destitute that $7 is offered by your government to buy your loyalty.

Once people are that destitute, whether it be from government created inflation and subsequent government raised taxes, etc., in addition to other forms of oppression like Iran murdering tens of thousands of protestors like the Capital police shooting down unarmed women protestors in mass, whatever regime that is charge needs to go as they no longer represent the populace and have lost all illusions of legitimacy. At that point they serve as just a warden as they punish those who may protest them or resist them.

The way things are looking, the US may be on the same track, especially with AI taking all the jobs.
