So all Trump’s bragging about how tariffs are cutting the deficit is out the window…
Someone somewhere?
American citizens
Nobody knows how much money we've brought in through tariffs. I'll leave alone for a moment that the goal wasn't to increase revenue but to re-shore jobs...that paid wages...that could be taxed...that would expand the economy.... Its highly doubtful that the tariff revenue is actually new revenue. Because...if it is and they have only been doing this for what, 9 months, we should get a check for $2,000 every year then right? It's a dividend...not stimulus, not a rebate, not welfare....it's being characterized as a dividend; something you receive for an investment. So we should be getting these checks every year.
Something tells me that we won't. LOL
Is that helping to get manufacturing infrastructure to return here? we are not working with real money. We are working with a fiat currency which is debt money. There may be better sources out there, but a quick search came up with
As of July 2025, tariff revenues since January 2025 totaled $122 billion (link).
So I guess it is possible. If they send $2000 to 100M people, that's $200B, which is approximately annual tariff revenue.
Except there are more than 100M people....and, logically speaking, the $122 Billion is also counting pre-existing tariffs that were funding the governmentThere may be better sources out there, but a quick search came up with

More relief that’s to trumpFirst there was the $1,200 stimulus check in April 2020.
Then there was the $600 check in December of 2020:

Most Americans will get $600 after Trump signs stimulus bill
The president's decision to back down and sign the measure released $900 billion in stimulus funds into the economy that had been held up for nearly a week.www.texastribune.org
Now...despite GOP Speaker of the House saying "There Is No More Money" last week, they have miraculously found enough to send 200M+ Americans a check for $2,000 (amazing what losing a few races in off year elections does for the pocket book eh???).
Clearly, these new outlays are only meant to help the president's polling numbers and will add another trillion or two to the deficit.
Both parties are out to lunch fiscally so I'm not too concerned about whether it comes to pass or not.

Whatever the reasoning/mathematics...I’ll happily cash the check; it’s doubtful that this is little more than additional national debt.
It's crass vote buying. US voters are such dumbfucks.I am not a fan of these payments, as it is debt money, like you and 22lcidw said. They also increase inflation by increasing disposable income for a large number of people.
