If food shortages threaten, what would you stock up on?

Beans, rice, can goods, freeze dried fruits and veggies

Have ya'll not learnt anything from 2020??? TOILET PAPER by all means.

For those that have canned goods........ya better have a few can openers too....just sayin

Besides all the food and ammo and whatnot......I'd also suggest medical supplies, including bourbon as it comes in handy as a disinfectant of open wounds. And lots of hardback how-to books to build your skill set, like foraging for food from wild plants & mushrooms without getting poisoned or sick, how to smoke meats for preservation as well as other foods and whatever other life skills you may need.

And don't forget water, lots and lots of fresh potable water

This strikes me as odd.

why odd??? That's how soap was made for millenia, and that lye is basically toxic enough to eat a hole right thru ya

Without becoming a 'prepper', what foods would you squirrel away against possible shortages due to the ominous forecasts concerning the weather, shortages of fertilizer, possible price hikes?

My choice would be peanut butter and whole wheat products.

Too poor to "squirrel away," anything.

I have trained myself to go about six days w/o food. During that time, I'll see what I can do. If I can't do? I guess I'll just die.

Lofty Wiseman says being in the right mental frame, having the right information on hand, and being properly educated about possibilities is better than any stockpiling.

Stockpiling makes you a target IMO.

These are a few that I own, actual books.

I know the location of a huge field of cattails on some wetland way out in the county. Depending on the season, I suppose I would start there.

It's odd that folks would stockpile soap and trade for it. Why would anyone want to trade valuable things for something you can just make?

Cause if it gets bad enough you're gonna be too busy with other stuff and premade soap would come in handy to save you that much trouble, especially if you have youngins around to get into it or knock it over

If folks find out you have it, they'll just shoot you for it.

You better hope 10,000 other people don't beat you to it.

Picking up an 'extra' anytime you go shopping can keep it cheap

So, we're talking like, end of the world shit and you're talking mango-coconut puree?
Da Fuq? Never figured you for a hoitie Toitie type. lol

Well, there is a company that makes a sweet chunky mango-coconut puree as a dressing to sandwiches and stuff that mixed with a good east Indian habanero sauce makes a really great dressing for meat, fish, sandwiches, maybe even just on a cracker.

Beans and rice.

There is a thing called 'eminent domain', where 'da man' can take your stuff........IF they can find it
Years ago I was on a reno (old farm house) in the mountains of VT, where the digger unearthed a bomb shelter.......looked much like Flash's pix....canned goods....water.....even a geiger counter ......

Fact is it was owned by some pentagon general back in the cold war....nobody knew it was there.... ;) ~S~

Not if you don't really have anyplace to put it. I did try that for a while, then everything I owned was destroyed in a flood a few years back. When the creator sends a message, IMO, you should listen.

That would be one out of every eight people that live in the county. Given most of the replies in this thread? I'm not that worried something like that will happen.

. . . and the folks on here are clearly preppers. I wonder how many of these folks even know that cattails are edible, and what part of the plant is? Seem to me, most folks are more concerned with hording than getting educated about the possibilities.

. . . . and as I said, if my plans don't work out, guess I'll just die.

Tomatoes the size of softballs, tasted just like shit.
If an apocalypse comes, folks won't care what food tastes like, as long as it is edible and nutritious.

Go four or five days w/o food, then eat. I think you would be surprised at how good just about anything edible tastes.
