ICE Agents Can Now Be Arrested in Chicago

"A FEDERAL JUDGE IN CHICAGO RULED last Wednesday that starting this week ICE agents can now face arrest and contempt proceedings if they conduct unlawful, warrantless arrests, marking a dramatic shift in immigration enforcement oversight in the city.

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Cummings found that ICE agents violated the terms of a consent decree by detaining people without proper warrants, following a surge in such arrests amid increased enforcement activity. According to the judge’s order, ICE agents must now wear body cameras and have them turned on. They also cannot arrest anyone complying with their appointment dates at immigration courthouses.

The latest order expands protections for immigrants, mandating rigorous reporting and retraining requirements for agents and creating court-backed avenues for legal consequences—including possible arrest—for those found violating the judge’s directive."

Very good.

There is no legitimate reason to object to these protections for immigrants.

ICE agents are subject to the rule of law.

It is about ******* TIME!!! ICE has become a very ugly organization. They are NOT a law unto their self. ICE is out of control. It gone from a legitimate law enforcement agency to acting the Gestapo.

Uh, no, they cannot. 🤡

So if ICE takes into custody a group that Andy, Barney, Floyd and Goober feel sympathetic toward and suspect an error, then they take ICE into custody?
The Judge could find they are in contempt. Thats a good bit different and is a hearing etc etc. Now there may be more to it, but I can't find anything yet.

How is one in contempt by not confirming beforehand every single persons identity when in such a volatile situation. They all claim they are legal
Cart way way before horse.

I will let others figure that out. I guess it would have to be specific arrests that are egregious, but that's just supposition on my part.

With the huge volume of illegals that ICE right in front of them, , why in the world would they be looking to pad any numbers by deliberately arresting legal citizens?
When you swim with a cluster of catchsble fish, you might get swept up in The net.

Evidently this goes back to an agreement ICE consented to back in 2022.
A federal judge in Chicago has imposed new limitations on the ability of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to make arrests without warrants, siding with plaintiffs in a long-running class-action lawsuit against ICE.

The ruling, which stems from a consent decree struck by the Biden administration in 2022, is unrelated to the pending legal challenges to President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard troops in Chicago and Portland, Ore. But it signals that another judge is skeptical about the Trump administration’s willingness to adhere to legal requirements as the president ratchets up his mass deportations.

The decision, issued on Tuesday, is confined to ICE’s Chicago area of responsibility, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kentucky and Kansas, and will expire in February. But it could influence the courts’ interpretations of ICE’S legal authorities in similar cases elsewhere.

I think the judge (a Biden appointee) has exceeded his authority

When he is overturned by a higher court the judge should be removed from the bench

Show me the law that requires ICE to have a warrant to detain any illegal they come across. This ruling will not stand in an appeal.

Warrants are NOT required under Federal law to detain illegals. The judge is an insurrectionist.

ICE
does not need judicial warrants to make arrests. Like all other law enforcement officers, ICE officers and agents can initiate consensual encounters and speak with people, briefly detain aliens when they have reasonable suspicion that the aliens are illegally present in the United States, and arrest people they believe are illegal aliens. ICE officers and agents can also detain and search people crossing the border.

15th post
So, if I understand this, they are saying that ice agents can be arrested for doing their job?

Going to be an interesting situation if you have an ice raid in progress and local police show up to arrest them. Im sure nothing could go wrong with that......

Will the LEO need a warrant? Ha!
