Like any conservative, you have a few facts, which you twist to fit your narrative. But the main reason is the media went softball with him for a year. They didn't call him out. Never confronted him with evidence to his face. They still don't: Trump claims he was always against the war, but you've never seen the interviewer play the Howard Stern remarks to Trump's face. It's never happened. Because the media is soft on Trump. That's starting to change, but that just makes the media look bad - they should have been calling bullshit from Day 1.
You stumbled on a really good point here without knowing it. The Media is the PR arm of the Democrat Party. All through the primaries, every time Trump made a statement that would have ended most political careers, we wondered at how he managed to spin it into better poll numbers. It was the power of the media.
First, they would give Trump ample time to explain his comments. Trump is a natural promoter so he could spin anything and do it convincingly. The media gave him the air time and then served to 'reinforce' his spin in their 'editorial' commentary. Well, yes, it was brash, but he's not a politician... and that's what people like, he speaks his mind! They helped him promote the spin and the gullible public bought it while scratching their heads as to how Trump got out of yet another crazy statement.
Well now... they got the candidate they wanted through the nomination. The game changes. He no longer gets the air time to explain his comments and the media is not helping promote his spin. And don't worry... the Howard Stern interview is coming... so is the scathing documentary NBC purchased. It's all going to be unleashed on Trump now because the media is in the tank for Hillary... they have been all along... this whole thing was by design.
The media is in the tank for ratings. Period.
