I agree that it would have been a PR disaster for the Republicans if they had forced another government shutdown. That's the last thing most people want.

I'm glad there were enough cool heads to pass the budget deal and avoid a shutdown. When you see a deal that angers hardliners on the right and left, the deal is probably a reasonable compromise measure.
