How will the Trump tariffs actually work ?

This is a problem, he is asking to understand a issue and you dump on him, he is asking for information, you may not agree with him, I rarely do but dialogue is needed to understand his perspective as well as he can understand yours. We all have differing opinions, we need to find common ground by open dialogue.

Appreciate your words but we are talking about Tommy Tithead .

People like him pretend to ask questions but they just use that device as a way of introducing their own answers .

He answered his own pretend question when he told you that Tariffs would lead to inflation and produce product shortages .
That's as far as his analysis took him .
He could never see further than that easy ,quick, superficial outcome.
And he never will .

He only ever parrots Fake News-- The porn rag Guardian or one of the Agencies like Reuters .
And Communists only like to parade their cherished views . Not to take notice of others .
imho

like most things, you have no idea how tariffs actually work. A tariff is applied to a foreign product that is imported into the USA for sale, the importer has to pay the tariff, He then adds the tariff to the price of his product for sale in the USA. This makes foreign products more expensive than the same domestic products and thereby helps US companies by making their products more price competitive. This helps US companies and US workers. and is a good thing for America. Other countries do the same thing to protect their domestic producers. Why do you think that no Harley Davidsons are sold in Italy? Because Italy puts a high tariff on them to protect Italian motorcycle companies. It's really not complicated if you have a working brain.
And if you put highly targeted tariffs, it works. But putting tariffs on materials and goods that have no domestically produced equivalent only raises the price.

Why are higher prices due to tariffs double plus ungood and are the politicians' fault while higher prices due to tax and MW increases are the CEOs' fault while the politicians are the good?

60% of US oil imports come from Canada. A 25% tariff on that would jack up gasoline prices big time.

The current setup in the USA relies on Canadian oil for making bigger profits. The USA has the refineries that can handle Canadian heavy crude, so the USA imports Canadian heavy crude. The USA then exports USA-produced light crude, which fetches a higher price in the global market than heavy crude.

Trump's tariffs devastated farmers in his first term. Trump backers always conveniently forget about that economic devastation. The counter-tariffs on US farm goods meant that China bought from Australia instead of the USA, and so US farm prices tumbled.

In the previous Trump admin, farmers begged for more welfare to offset the losses, and got it. Needless to say, no Republican uttered a peep of protest over that supersized welfare program. Republicans do adore their welfare, as long as they're the ones getting it. That's the whole point of being conservative, to line your pockets with government handouts.

We should absolutely refuse more welfare for farmers this time. Farmers overwhelmingly voted for the tariffs. They FA'd, so they should FO. If we keep bailing farmers out for every stupid thing they do, they'll have no incentive to not be welfare mooches.

Also, it's a matter of scale.

$80 billion in tariff-taxes caused only a bit of inflation.

$1.2 trillion in new tariff-taxes will cause massive inflation.
