Here's a quiz to show you how good your English vocabulary is.

I know lots of folks here believe they have excellent vocabulary, and it's sure fun to watch them try to use it. If you take this quiz and dare to be honest, we'll find out.

I got 17 of 21 questions correct, which translated to a B grade. Surprising, because I thought I'd get a higher score. Oh, well.

Practice makes perfect. If I'm not mistaken, from looking at your posts I can see that you read. Reading is the best way to improve vocabulary.

Thanks for taking the quiz.

i flunked.... 😣 ~S~

Even if your vocabulary is lacking, you still express yourself pretty clearly.

Thanks for taking the quiz and being honest.

Almost perfect, but the way we southerners speak detracts a few points.
.

Well, what I heard of the English, when I spent a few months in Mississippi, was very interesting! Almost like another language. I loved it. I learned the accent but never picked up on the colloquialisms to the degree I would have liked.

I almost flipped when I ran in the house after getting bitten by a colony of fire ants, and my friend's mom told me to "Get in the bathroom closet and get the alkyhawl and thow some on it".

I loved it!

I remember the wonderful experience of teaching my friend from Saudi Arabia to speak some "Texan". He learned to say "Howdy. How y'all doin"? nearly perfectly, but "fixin' to do something" was kind of beyond his understanding.

Couple of brain freezes to my private annoyance, although I don't think I have ever run across the last word before on reflection .
.

I had never seen it either.

Thanks for taking the quiz.

It's good to know that they offer a program that can help you if you need to learn a new language quickly although I've been informed that Rosetta Stone is the product that our diplomats use when they're assigned overseas.

I'm fairly certain that I've never encountered some of the words on the test before but was surprised by the definitions of a few of them. I scored 16 out of 21.

Yeah, I thought a bromide was an alkaline substance as well.

Scored 13. I sucked. Out of the last 7, I only got 1 correct. Pretty good, up until then.

Stuff like that can be a helpful supplement at best. Give Duolingo a try.

Good job. I think 13 is so much better than a lot of Americans will do!

Thanks for taking the quiz.

I flunked. I only got 1 question right, the word Cavil, from reading Mac1958 posting nothing ever but petty objections.
So I took it a second time thinking it would better help me get off the ground running,
but instead that time, I missed them all.
I'm utterly deplorable.
