This is such a predictable and blatantly political move. Our constitution prohibits a political prosecution but here we are with the Biden DOJ committing such an obvious action without evidence to support the action.

Unless I'm mistaken, appointing a "special counsel" allows them to claim DT was investigating HRC, Crossfire Hurricane, just about anything.
This will remove any of these documents from public scrutiny because they will be claimed to be part of the active investigation into DT.
They will use this to deny docs & info that the Repubs may request for any scrutiny.

This is how they operate, they can indefinitely cover up their misdeeds under color of law while the "investigation" continues.
Their Pravda & progbot minions will deny this of course but they have no credibility.
This was most likely why Durham was made a special counsel as well, to lock down info that might actually benefit DT

I mean, the Trump administration took an axe to the concept of congressional oversight when he flatly refused to cooperate with any such attempt.

More to the point, ongoing investigations (and this one is clearly justified) are never discussed publicly or with Congress.
