Actually, almost all churches in the south do. I spent some time attending a Southern Baptist Church and heard the preacher go off on what his congregation should do with the votes. That sounds not good. But if you attend the sit downs held right after that you will find that the "Congregation" is using it to express their own opinion freely which may or may not be the same as the preacher. The preacher would be a white republican that had once been a Dixiecrat.

Yes ,a study was done to find that in a majority of Baptist congregations an average of 15% of them are democrats.
That usually cools the rhetoric down some. Political discussions belong in the dining building not the pulpit.
I am a registered democrat and Baptist and I am not alone. I have never voted straight party.

But......the township/county/school district still depends upon property tax revenue to fund our government and our kid's education.

So, while the IRS may be boxed in on taxing church income (and profits?)......those smaller jurisdiction's still require funding via the property tax income stream.

So, churches should pay their fair share for the services they use with road establishment and maintenance, and public school funding. In my poor avatar's view there should be no free ride on maintaining the local infrastructure....ala' roads, bridges, etc.

Do we want the Satanist Church, or the Mosque, or the Falun Gong ......NOT paying for the services they use.....such as those roads & bridges, or for that matter, the fire departments or police forces?

It was required that free time had to be universal in Texas. It's not only a tradition but it's the law.
