Well I have three chickens and a duck but they egg laying has all but stopped the past six months, I put it down to the past two years here where we had summer months of 115F day after day, climate change is putting a huge strain on animals and plants

I hope your birds weren't harmed by the heat. I am certain you made sure they had plenty of water and food. Grandmother raised large numbers of Chickens and Turkeys, supplying meat and eggs to local markets, but I do not remember her ever talking about the hens quitting laying for 6 months. Sounds strange.

As long as you don't go much over 350 degrees for more than an hour and a half in the oven, the birds aren't harmed by the heat. They come out a golden brown and so delicious.

It is strange, the birds are about three years old though so that might be a factor.

They are cared for, I have one of these hooked up that blows a cool mist into their coop, they sure like to sit in there when it's hot here. This is on a timer and comes around 10am and shuts off around 4pm in the summer months.

It's funny, my great aunt and her family had a chicken farm, we even have an old black and white picture of them together in the hen house. They wouldn't hesitate to kill chickens to eat and sell and shit, but I can't do it. I can't look at a bird like that, or any animal, and kill it unless it has damaged my property or is a risk to human life. Like those bull hauler trailers I see. I can't load cows into a barn to be slaughtered. I don't have the heart. God bless those that do, though.

I was raised on and off the family farm, as well as having been a hunter, growing up, and not to forget survival training with a two week in the swamp final practical exercise. If it is living, I can kill it and eat it, if necessary.
