How to end poverty in America.

Not all poor people are on welfare. Why such a broad brush? The greatest work ethic in the world will not guarantee one moves out of being poor.
Sure they are.

Depends on how you define “poor.” Poor is NOT earning $45,000 and sharing a 2-bedroom apartment with your friend.

Well if they are working and still poor then im ok with providing help. No working american adult should be working hard for $15 per hour to be living in squalor. Not in the world’s most wealthy nation.
And people earning $30,000, if they have dependents, do get welfare.

If they don’t, they can do what my friends all did, my brother did, my father did WHEN THEY FIRST GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE and rent a room in a house.

$45 thousand is not middle class. Is low class. Half effort pay.

That's about $500/net per week. Hardly squalor pay.

So? And it’s called WORKING CLASS.

Most Americans are part of the working class. Two of them married equals a $90,000 income. Straight middle class.

And if they’re single, then they share an apartment, or possibly rent a cheap studio if they want their own place.

Yup. That’s more than $2000 a month. That will allow someone to share an apartment - or maybe a three-bedroom townhouse - and still left over for food, public transportation, and some little extras.

Sharing rent with one other reduces it by half. With two roommates reduces it by two-thirds. Three people earning $15/hr. can rent a great apartment for $1500/month with lots of money left over to save or spend.

If one is only making 45 thousand one should not be getting married. Period. And surely not having kids either.

And, as I said upthread, plenty of new college graduates do that - and don’t complain.

Why does that leftist think people with minimal education and career training are entitled to leave a better lifestyle than new college grads?

2 grand? Per month? Having to share an apt with others? Nope. Miserable way to exist.

Depends on the cost of living where you live. $45K is pretty good pay in Mississippi.

Why would anyone work for $15 per hour? Our local gas station here pays $20 per hour in its convenience store. They can never find workers though.

Ridiculous.

What about all the welfare people having kids? THEY are the ones who shouldn’t be having kids.

But two people earning $45,000 - together a HHI of $90,000 - can rent a comfortable apartment and have kids if they want.

You think the only people that should have kids are the top 10% (the liberal elite) and the 40% or so on welfare - and the MAJOR group comprised of the lower-middle class should not?

You’re nuts.

I shared rent until I got married at age 32. Almost no one lived alone and paid full rent back then as it was too expensive, just as it is today. The trick is to find compatible roommates. My roommates were longtime friends and guys that I worked with. Very few problems.

People with an 11th grade education working at the 7-11 and earning $30,000 have a choice:

1) Go to community college in the evenings and earn an A.A. in a trade or career, and move up the earning ladder.

2) Share a 3-bedroom townhouse with two other unskilled workers.

That’s the same for my generation - and the generation before. Everyone either rented a room in a house, shared an apartment, or rented a cheap studio.

They moved on when they either got married or moved up in their career.

I think its best for people to build up a big nest egg before getting married or having kids. Wait until much later in life to do that stuff. It helps the nation as well. More and more young people are doing this asvevidenced by the decline in martiages and birth rates.

Or even better, staying with your parents and working, saving, until a good sized nest egg is stored away.

32 is a good age to consider marriage. Even 35 in todays america is a wise way.

So you think 30-year-olds should live with Mommy and Daddy rather than be independent young adults, learning to live within their incomes?
