Check your auto insurance. Make sure it has coverage for a loaner car in the event you are hit by an uninsured driver. It's only about a dollar a month.

Many states have an auto insurance mandate. However, you can call any auto insurance company in America. And you aren't forced to buy whatever insurance your employer offers you. And you don't lose it when you lose or change your job.

But...you must have it. And it must meet certain standards.

The problem with healthcare and the market is you are often in no position to shop around or negotiate. In emergency you go to nearest hospital and get what they give you.

You're supposed to do your shopping ahead of time, and choose your doctor, hospital, and insurance before you get sick. Yeah, if you get in an emergency situation on the other side of the city from your hospital, you're going to get your emergency care wherever's closest, but once you're stable, they'll transfer you to your primary hospital if you want them to.

Your health insurance has provisions for all those sorts of situations, presuming you've been smart enough to cover yourself properly beforehand.
