How the Founders weighed in on the importance to democracy of virtue.

Thomas Jefferson wrote a lot - identify ONE passage wherein he defended the institution of slavery

Throughout his entire life, Thomas Jefferson was publicly a consistent opponent of slavery. Calling it a “moral depravity”1 and a “hideous blot,”2 he believed that slavery presented the greatest threat to the survival of the new American nation.3 Jefferson also thought that slavery was contrary to the laws of nature, which decreed that everyone had a right to personal liberty.4 These views were radical in a world where unfree labor was the norm.

Really irrelevant. No different than those who call for a virtuous lifestyle while have lead an adulterous life of screwing other people over.

You claim that Ms Sally Hemings was raped is baseless.
This is true. They had multiple children together.

I am aware of NO CASE, where a woman who was "raped," gave birth to multiple children through time, by the same guy.

Given their close working relationship, and everything we know to be true, it is more than likely they were in a close relationship.

This speaks to your grave misunderstanding of how the global economy of that time operated.

Jefferson was a spend thrift, and KNEW he was weak. While he would criticize the banks and the debt based economy to no end, he was still forced to live in it.
. . . just as slaves were forced to deal with a world that mostly did not think slavery was wrong.

It is in the Bible, and humanity as a whole, had been practicing it since we crawled out of the mud. SLAVERY? That's the normal condition of humans. . . if our modern civilized world fell apart tomorrow? As sure as folks need protection and to eat, slavery would return en masse.

Could he have freed all of his human capital and lived as a pauper? Of course. But no one did that back in those days.

We would not even know who Jefferson is, if he had done such a thing.

Some of them knew it was wrong but did it anyway so they could live well. Those who would do that have no business being examples of virtuous anything.

There are plenty of things, that our rulers know is morally reprehensible, but?

Since we are not the only folks that live, or the only government, they do them anyway.

I follow the truth of global politics. They ALL say one thing but are forced to do the other.
