One guy, a small town mayor in Mississippi, does not represent the entire Right-Wing. According to Tonja Johnson, the executive director of the Madison County Library System, they have a library board that decides which books are allowed and which aren't, and I assume there are mechanisms in place to remove/replace individuals on that board if the public isn't pleased with their decisions. But I doubt the mayor has that authority; in any event I'm sure this will end up in court.

My own opinion is that everyone, including students, ought to have access to learn about CRT, LGBTQ rights and what the fuss is all about. I also think most kids are going to learn all about it on the street rather than in the library, but the books oughta be there IMHO. Let the parents and the community decide, not the mayor.

It is censorship. It’s the action of one elected official to suppress a perfectly legal book or set of books. It obviously implicates governmental action even if the Mayor is acting unilaterally and contrary to the legally passed budget. Government suppression of books is exactly the kind of behavior the 1st Amendment forbids.

Being a Republican or a conservative isn’t the point. Violation of the Constitutional prohibition is the point. His action also seems to violate the same Amendment’s prohibition of the establishment clause (based on his religious view being imposed on everybody else).
