Well we're having to import 'foreign' doctors--it's darn hard to find a doctor in our city who ISN'T foreign born these days--because our American doctors are bailing out of the medical profession as fast as they can. Or at least they are bailing out of any groups subject to unreasonable mal practice insurance rates and extremely oppressive rules and regs and that has been multiplied many times over since Obamacare went into effect.

It is getting more difficult to find foreign born skilled workers in many professions though. Many if not most illegals are marginally educated, if at all, have poor command, if any, of English, and have few marketable skills.

I see I have to educate another idiot! Only 3% of illegals are picking crops. The other 97% are doing jobs that Americans have always done. Even for crop picking there are unlimited H-2A visas for legal, foreign crop pickers. If a farmer isn't using those visas then he need not blame Americans for lack of interest in a dead end, no career job as crop picking. There is nothing dysfunctional about our immigration quotas and policies. We don't need millions of poor and uneducated in our country . They become a burden to our society. We don't have the jobs and resources for every poor immigrant that wants to come here. What part of that aren't you getting? It has nothing to do with bigotry. We allow in over 1 million legal immigrants a year and that is all we can accommodate. So stick your race card where the sun don't shine!

I have known people that have immigrated here legally. From Europe or Asia. From Lithuania, Germany, Hungary, Great Brittan, Poland, Vietnam and Ireland. Well I may be wrong as usual, but I usually won't defend something that I don't have pretty good knowledge of.

The number of openings in residency programs is limited per an act of Congress and can't keep up with the increasing shortage that is reaching critical level in many areas:

I look after an elderly aunt and uncle who insist on remaining independent in their home and that means I have lists of their doctors and everybody else they need to do business with as I may need to intervene or assist at any time. My husband is a cancer survivor among other medical problems and also has to see a number of specialists in addition to his primary care physician all during the year. So between them all and myself, I have a list of 22 doctors that one of us has to see for something intermittently or regularly. Among those 22 doctors, three are American born.

I think we will be needing to import doctors from other places for some time to come. I have no problem with us bringing in people who want to be Americans and who can contribute in ways that benefit us all. I just don't see any benefit to anybody to continue to allow people to come here illegally and continue to overburden our social services.

Weeeellll, not exactly. I have worked for hospitals in various capacities for a number of years. One of those hospitals was a small hospital in a small town in central Kansas where I worked in radiology. As the hospital expanded along with its patient load, our one resident radiologist was unable to handle the whole load. We were unable to persuade a qualified American radiologist to join us in a small prairie town hospital that couldn't pay quite as much as a good radiologist can usually command. Dr. Raza, an Iranian, did want to come to the USA and because we sponsored his immigration, he did wind up in our department. And as I was leaving that hospital for another job, we were expecting Dr. Obando from Argentina, also recruited as an immigrant doctor and willing to guarantee our hospital a few years.
