We live on promises. We continually vote for the same politicians that year after year do nothing. The is no accountability for politicians and we never demand to see proven and tangible results from the money spent. I have yet to see an American politician take responsibility for their dismal or complete lack of results. Even worse we elect people who have no real experience in assessing strategy, managing an organization and delivering desired results.

People judge politicians based on likability and not results.

People gravitate towards promises of comfort and stability. Merkel also played on German guilt for the horrors under Hitler. This made neighboring countries and Germans feel better. The cost however between immigration and green energy policies will cost the German economy amounts that they may not be able to sustain. All in the interest of a feel good policy.
