That was fucking stupid of the police. After the first shot he could have slit the other guys throat.

I can't tell what happened with those first few shots. Did they miss him 3 times? He almost seems confused that they're shooting at him. Otherwise it seems like he had a few chances to take out the hostage before they killed him.

Thankfully everything went ok. Looks like that could have been much worse.
