We had no need for the Hoover Dam when it was built. It was just a make-work project. Then when WWII came, it was the only reason we were able to defeat Japan as quickly as we did. Even the Japanese were shocked at how fast we could turn out ships and planes. The excess electric generating capacity of the HD is the only reason we could.

That's usage. Dana is talking about supply.Agriculture in California is the biggest water hog.
They said that about here at the height of our 11 year drought...then the rains came. Yawn....cycles are cycles.Climate change is making these droughts much worse. These changes are here to stay until we take action to reverse using our atmosphere as a dumping ground for our CO2 emissions.
California, climate change and the trauma of the last decade
The wildfires were more destructive. The drought was the longest on record. And the storms, when they finally came, unleashed more water than our dams could contain.phys.org

I disagree it was not needed because of the now well known storage of water.
The defeat of Japan had very little to do with the same.
But I am pleased that socialist picked were responsible for the building of it. Thank you Mr. Keynes.
Yes, farmers are usually Republicans, and like the vast majority of American conservatives, they care only about themselves. Most are having deeper and deeper wells drilled so they can beat their neighbors to the remaining water.Agriculture in California is the biggest water hog.
I hope you don't like to eat.Yes, farmers are usually Republicans, and like the vast majority of American conservatives, they care only about themselves. Most are having deeper and deeper wells drilled so they can beat their neighbors to the remaining water.
Also, there are the brainless conservatives in California, they keep demanding the construction of more dams. To catch what. No rain or snow in the mountains, as the drought conditions have proven, means no runoff, making those dams a waste of tax dollars.
But, facts have no place in the conservative mind(less).

Lake Powell is also at it's lowest level since they started filling it. #1 and #2 reservoirs for the western half of the country.I've been going to and photographing Lake Mead and Hoover Dam since the mid 80s
At that time the line of white from decrease in water was already there for everyone to see and the state was already talking about water levels.
Through the years I've photographed the same areas many times. Each time there is less and less water. Each time I'm shocked at what I'm seeing and photographing. I photographed it last July. It was the worst conditions I've seen thus far at the lake.
That lake and system provides water to California, Arizona and Nevada.
They expect the lake to get to the low levels that cause shortages and conserving by August.
The dam is now at 35% capacity. But that's ok: Those 35 million people in SOCAL can eat solar and wind when the power goes out.
You think that climate change disasters will stop at the Mississippi River? Nope...the entire country is going to see heat waves, worsening hurricanes, deadly blizzards, and crippling water shortages. It is just a matter of time.Yes, farmers are usually Republicans, and like the vast majority of American conservatives, they care only about themselves. It's too late to turn it around...we need to learn how to live with what we've done.Climate change is making these droughts much worse. These changes are here to stay until we take action to reverse using our atmosphere as a dumping ground for our CO2 emissions.

California is NOT just desert. Where did you learn geography?California is not the right place to grow food, as it is just desert.
It is always going to be too dry, and the cost of bringing in water from NV, CO, UT, AZ, and NM like we do now, is way too expensive.
Why do you think Mexico gave CA away?
Its no good for anything.
you sound as stupid as those you bad mouth....Yes, farmers are usually Republicans, and like the vast majority of American conservatives, they care only about themselves. Most are having deeper and deeper wells drilled so they can beat their neighbors to the remaining water.
