Historically, when has a sanction worked?

Absolutely nothing. The only thing a weak democrat president can do is sanctions.
Do you support deploying American millitary to Ukraine? If not, then:

There was NOTHING to win.

We wanted to take over Afghanistan and yet we condemn others for doing the same? This is why our standing in the world has fallen so far. The world understands that we are really not much different than Russia. What we did in Iraq wasn't any better than what Russia is doing. At least Russia is not creating a lie to do it.
Try to stay on topic.

What are you disagreeing with? You're all over the place.

We lost Iraq and Afghanistan because insurgents are hard to defeat

Then it was well, we were only there based on a lie so there was nothing to fight for

Then it was we shouldn't be condemning others for doing the same thing we did.

But that has zero to do with the US's lack of appetite to fight a counter insurgency war the way it has to be fought in order to win. We are in fact unwilling to fight it in either of the 2 ways you can win one. It also doesn't speak to whether Russia and Putin are or if Ukraine will become an insurgency which I don't think it will.

So stay on topic.

It has everything to do with it. People understand that there is nothing to win, that the government routinely lies about war and they are not willing to waste their kids over that any longer.

Just say'in.

I mean, what sanctions could ever hold down a despot hell bent on war?

Hmm?

Also, FYI, higher taxes don't make global temperatures go down either.

But that is for another thread.
For over 40 years sanctions had no effect on Cuba

You think Putin should attack US troops?

If someone had troops lined up on our border, would we not consider it an act of war?

I believe we need to mind our own business and there is no problem then. I believe we need to quit thinking other countries must accept what we would not. I believe we need to quit condemning other countries for things we so readily do ourselves.

Funny though how so many praised Trump for not starting new wars but seem to want Biden to start one.

Is that why we were in Afghanistan for 20 years? What your saying doesnt jive with what happened. If the US population really wanted out of Iraq and Afghanistan, we wouldn't have reelected Obama.

We shouldn't have. Unfortunately many simply decided to ignore what we were doing in Afghanistan.

Youre stupid if you think Putin would have gone to war with the US over Ukraine.

We massively increased the number of countries in NATO. Tied into globalism. Putin tried to tell them over the years as they increased the number and the borders of NATO got closer and closer to Russia with military and missiles facing them. Perhaps a buffer zone would have been preferable with guarantees and restrictions where militaries on both sides can be.

Maybe Putin should have posted troops on the Syrian border to keep us out of there. Recall Russia was telling us to stay out. We did not listen.

That didn't work for Europe at Munich.

So you are saying leave NATO? That would be foolish.
Munich had nothing at all to do with us. If Europe just wants to appease, and that is what they seem to want now, what can anyone really say?

Actually, I agree with Trump: NATO is worn out. Much good NATO did us in Afghanistan or Iraq. They really just got in our way and didn't do anything anyway, for the most part. I'd be fine with leaving NATO, as I guess was implied by my satisfaction with our policy in both (NATO-free) world wars: come in late, clean up the place.

How about putting 100,000 US soldiers on their border? Do you honestly think Putin would have attacked if that was the case?
Wow, so if you were in charge you would send 100k troops, us citizens to stand on the Russia Ukraine border… really?!
